I don't know about an exact solution but with a little digging it might be possible to help.
Bring up the Task Manager before you do a save, save the file, and then watch which process might be hogging the cpu.
Also try the Processes Explorer from : http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml to see which process is actually doing something and when you're saving.
And it could be caused by a names-resolution problem.
Does it happen if you save a file from the same machine with Notepad?
This may be a "check-this, check that" type of situation.
Of course, you didn't mention how long ago it was working fine, what changes you've made to the system, etc. Some updates with the fixes have caused performance problems.
