I have two PC's, both W2k Prof SP3. I am trying to update to SP4 & all
other relevant patches. Everytime I try the CPU utilisation goes to
100%, update.exe is hogging the CPU. I have seen info about using a
version of update.exe earlier than 5.4.1 (I think)which had a bug in
it that caused very similar symptoms to those I am experiencing. I
have downloaded the latest from MS but the same thing still happens -
ie try to run the patch to patch update.exe & I see 100% cpu
utilisation!!
I have tried booting in Safe Mode to run the sp, no joy, tried
crossing my fingers, no joy, whispered sweet nothings into the pcs
ear, no joy - does anyone have the answer to this before these pcs get
turned into "flying bricks"
