I posted something similiar in microsoft.public.sqlprogramming group and
then realized I should have cross posted. Although I didn't get much
results in the SQL group so hopefully you guys can help a rookie.

I am wanting to begin collecting performance data on my SQL server 2000 box
loaded on a Windows 2000 server. I have done a lot of reading on Performance
Monitor and found the counters I
want to track. Also, I have learned to run Performance Monitor on a remote
machine.

Has anyone had success with this? I am using my test server which is an
exact replica of my production server to try and track performance data.
When I go to select the computer on my test server to monitor only the local
machine is listed. So I type in the name of the name of the targeted server
and I keep getting an error saying computer not found!

Do you need to be on a domain. We are not on a windows domain for most of
our stuff is on a Novell server. Although my SQL box is on the windows 2000
server which is ran from a workgroup.

Both my machines are on the same workgroup. I went into the Performance
Logs and Alerts service and changed the start up from localsystem to a
Administrators login on the remote machine gathering the data.

Do I need to set up any login info on the targeted server?

Any suggestions from people who have encountered this. It is probably
something really stupid.

Thanks!
