Hi,
Couple of questions on things that are currently annoying me about
Win2K/Win2K server.
1) Every so often, our Win2K server (SP4) semi crashes. When I try and
log into the server where I'd be expecting a "Press CTRL+ALT+DEL..." box
to be, there is just the blue background screen, and users are unable to
log onto the Domain. Have looked through logs on each occasion in the
computer management, but no clues as to what is happening. Virus checker
is kept up to date and is not throwing up any warnings about viruses.
Anyone come across this before?
2) Why is it that the latest "hotfixes" have no .msi file in them? This
makes it incredibly hard to keep a network up to date as it is
impossible for me to get round all machines to perform such updates. I'd
rather just be able to add it to the group policy for the computers in
the network and let them update themselves that way (once I've had
chance to test the hotfix on a testbed machine to check for reliability
with our setup). Or can anyone give foolproof instructions on how to
create a .msi file with the basic tools that Win2K server ships with?
Or when is SP5 due out? I'm not overly happy about using the Windows
Update thing that sometimes comes up in the system tray, and I think it
was already disabled on most machines when I started here anyway.
Thanks,
Neil
