>Hi,

I have a DC with the following error in de eventviewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS
Event Category: (10)
Event ID: 1228
Date: 6/11/2004
Time: 9:26:00 AM
User: N/A
Computer: ARBOHVSDC1
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 1228 ) in Source ( NTDS ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following
information is part of the event: 2, First Counter.

This DC is a new installation and this is the only one that have this error.
The error shows every minute.

Can you help me?
( sorry for my bad english )

Thanks,

Rene

I can see where you might feel lost with this event error....it's not very
descriptive.
What I do notice is the inclusion of "First Counter" as part of the event.
"First Counter" is a variable found in the registry for performance
counters,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Performance
...you will notice that other services have this same registry entry (only
those that include their own performance counters of course)

To reload the NTDS extensible counter (one that is not installed be default
on a Windows 2000 installation, since NTDS is installed during promotion to
a DC) perform the following steps:
1. Open a command prompt window.
2. At the command prompt, enter "cd %Systemroot%\System32"
3. Enter the following line: "lodctr ntdsctrs.ini"

Refer to KB article 300956 for this and more info on rebuilding performance
counters
