Drives missing from My Computer

I have a Compaq Evo N160 notebook running under W2k (SP4).
The system has a swappable (LG) DVD-ROM. I recently
inherited an old HP CD-Writer Plus 8210e (USB connection).
I downloaded the W2k driver from the HP site, installed it,
and everything was working like a charm. I then made the
mistake of installing the Direct Letter Access software
(which is supposed to work with the CD-RW drive under W2k):
neither the DVD drive nor the CD-RW drive show up any more
under My Computer. Device Manager says that the CD-RW drive
is working fine; for the DVD drive it gives: "Your registry
might be corrupted. (Code 19)".

I have (of course) uninstalled DLA, and tried to reinstall
the CD-RW driver (the DVD driver is on a CD), but to no
avail. I have looked at KB, and Googled, but could not find
a description of my problem. I have the permissions the
Device Manager Troubleshooter says I should check. I guess
I have to delete something manually from the registry, but
am not sure exactly what.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.
