Sometimes it is just as easy to do an Inplace Upgrade.
If you want to try this, Go into the BIOS and set the CD-ROM as your First Boot
Device.

Place the Installation CD into the tray, and restart; at the beginning look for
"press any key" to initiate boot up.

First choice in Set Up or Repair; choose SetUp, and keep going until you are asked
if you want to go ahead with the install or "Repair"; choose "repair". All of your
install will be done like Clean Install, except you won't lose any data or settings,
except you will need to go through the process of Service Packs installs. With
broadband it's not bad. I suggest you download the "network" SP4 to a folder, and
run it from there. Afterward, only use the Hot patches that apply to you and install
them in smaller batches in case you have any troubles.
Hope this helps.

Might be a good time to check all drivers, etc.
After you're setup go to Belarc site, and d/l the small program that will give you
all the back feed as to any HotPatch that didn't take, all you hardware, all your
software, and your CD Key number. www.belarc.com really good to have.

I use W2K Pro/SP4 on a non-networked computer. When I try
to access "Automatic Updates" from the Control Panel, the
applet is greyed out and unavailable. I checked "Services"
and made sure that Auto Updates was set to "automatic" but
the service shows as "stopped." When hitting the "start"
button, I receive the following error message: "Could not
start the Automatic Updates service on Local Computer.
Error 1053, The service did not respond to the start or
control request in a timely fashion".
