I have had two massive "melt-down" hard disk failures of my Dell 400SC machine running Win2K.
In both cases, I was doing a large file copy and the result was directory corruption.
In both cases, upon reboot it said "UNABLE TO LOAD OPERATING SYSTEM".
(I am using an Hitachi 200 GB drive.)
The reason I am posting this question here becuse I just talked to Dell Technical support, and
they said this machine has not been certified to work with Win2K, but it is certified for
Win2K Server (along with other server versions). He didn't know if it has known failures with Win2K
or if it is just untested. Given that I have had two of these failures now, I am starting to wonder.
The basic hardware diagnostics all execute error-free.
Can anyone think of a reason why this hardware might fail with Win2K but work with Win2K Server?
Win2K satifies my current needs but I can move to Win2K Server if necessary. Are there "drawbacks"
to moving to Win2K Server for normal "home usage"? Any applications that will not work, etc?
Thanks.
