| By design, the share will be recreated the next time the server service is
| started, such as on a reboot. Why do you want to disable these shares?
| They're good to have, and as long as you aren't making everyone on your
| network an administrator, there isn't much issue having them shared. If
| you're on a stand alone computer not on a network, you could just disable
| the server service.
|
| But, if you want to disable these shares, C$, D$, etc., which will also
| include the admin$ share, add/edit this registry value:
|
| HKLM\System\CurrentControlset\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
| AutoShareWks = 0 (DWORD)
|
| That'll prevent the shares from being recreated after you do the same
thing
| you did before with the "stop sharing."
|
| But, unless you have a really good reason for disabling these shares, I
| wouldn't do it. Taking away access to data isn't the best way to protect
| it. Instead, you should control the permissions to the data itself. There
| are always other ways to find access to things, and if there's nothing
there
| to deny you once you do, there wasn't any point in attempting to secure
the
| data.
