2000 server locking up when using media player

Our windows 2000 server is also used as a workstation and
sometimes runs videos with media player nine. It has
recently started to freeze, meaning a reset and restart.
Task mangager shows CPU of about 75% on a green line and
45-60% on a red line below it. I have never seen the red
line before, what is it and is this anything to do with the
problem? If not any ideas on what it could be. We use
Sophos anti virus and its upto date plus spybot and adware
plus a couple of others to try to keep the system clean.
Its on a 1Meg broadband connection.
