Ok,

First thing, you can remove the selection to boot into ME by editing
D:\Boot.ini (or it may be on C:) - and
remove that selection.

(It should be one line - you can post the whole file here first if you'd be
more comfortable).

Second - the modem, if you right click 'my computer' and go to properties,
hardware, device manager
do you have any "unknown devices" listed? There is no "modem" entry? What
is under "ports"?

After we get these things handled, we'll tackle the partition situation.

d:. i have no idea so i install on the d: drive (which was the default
selection) and i tell it to not change any files (ie, keep them fat32).
bada boom bada bing. its installed. now, however, i go to resetup my
internet provider connection and the modem seems to be missing? it used to
be on com2 i think. now com2 doesnt even exist. i see a com1 communications
port and a printer port. com2 and com3--nothing. where the heck did my
modem go? it isn't detected anywhere. is it on the other partition, the c:
drive? should i have installed the windows 2000 on c: and deleted the d:
drive? should i go back and redo it or can i even do that? i booted up
again to the c: drive and it still has the windows me on it, but i couldn't
find the modem there anymore either. i also have to tell my computer every
time i turn it on which system i want to boot up. that seems ridiculous to
me. i dont need the windows me, but am afraid now to just arbitrarily delete
that partition (is it even a partition? i have no idea. im assuming it is).
anyone have any ideas? i am somewhat computer savvy, but clearly, i am not
that adept at computers technically. Many thanks to any kind soul willing to
help me out or at least give it a whirl.
