I have three computers running windows 2000. I just bought an APC UPS for
one of them and I will probably buy two two more. The one I bought, a
BE30U, is designed for desktop type use. It will probably last for 8
minutes. I usually only get spikes/surges in power and an infrequent, very
short, power outage. My question is: should I use the win2000 power options
in Control Panel, or the PowerChute Personal that comes with the UPS. The
APC site recommends that the computer be set to hibernate when power is
lost, but I don't see any option for that in their software. Are the
features in the win2000 power options, sophisticated enough to handle
reognizing an outage and going in to hibernate state ? I installed the
PowerChute software prematurely, and would like to have some thoughts on
this, before I uninstall it and play around with alternatives. I have a
question in to the APC support site, but have not received a response yet.
Has anyone dealt with how best to handle power outage shutdowns using an APC
UPS ?
