My Windows 2000 Pro system suddenly developed this habit
of shutting down and restarting every 10 minutes or so.

Installing Service Pack 4 did not help.

The message says:
======================
The system is shutting down. Please save all work in
progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost.
This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.

The system process C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SERVICES.EXE
terminated unexpectedly with status code 128. The system
will shut down and restart.
=======================

I found a website saying that if I fix the regedit
entry for shared objects, it would help, but my regedit
shows no such objects.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

Thanks in advance,
