Hi Dave,

I have read the KB, but still don't comprehend someone's remark concerning "not using SFC command" unless it is a last resort.

I am working on a child laden XP Home box that gets to the splash screen and then goes black. Can use F10 as System Restore, and choose Safe Mode. After bringing up desktop, and then choosing Restart can get into the normal setup. One thing that is curious is it seems to have two startup paths. The reason I say this is, on this particular box with a 15" LCD monitor the normal drivers only allow 1024x 768 resolution. The first time I get in the resolution is 12xxby10xx. So someone has done something that caused an incorrect driver to be allowed. BTW, it's an HP.

Sorry for the wordiness, and sorry also if this isn't clear.

Hi guys,
Recently I read that it "bad" to run the sfc /scannow command on XP (didn't
specify Pro or Home), when it really has been an effectively utility for
W2K? I want to try it on one XP machine, but would like to what I might
encounter.
thank you,
(I'm forever in your debt)
