Moving the boot directory to another partition

I would seldom do this, and because of that, like everything else it
is more simple said than done...
Can anyone comment on the easiest way to make a copy of my c:\win2000
boot directory to d:\win2000 in order to change the boot.ini and do
some testing while booting to d:\win2000.
Of course, when using XCOPY with all the appropriate switches
(including /C to ignore errors) it gives "sharing violations" while
running NT.
I noticed that the recovery console does not offer an XCOPY
equivalent...
This may be an OLD question, but what is the best and most simple way
to make a copy of the directory to the d:\ drive?
Any comment is appreciated...
