Parameter is incorrect

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello,
Background info:
I just recently uninstalled Trend Micro PC-cillin so I could install the new
version. During the first reboot, my PC indicated that some bad clusters
where found on my F:\ drive and it was running Chkdisk. It made three passes
and indicated that the bad sectors were being marked.

Now when I reboot my machine, (which takes forever) and go into DOS to check
my F: drive, I am getting "Parameter is incorrect".

I checked through Google and could not find any specific solution for this
error, well at least one I wouldn't have to pay a fee to see. I checked the
Microsoft Knowledge base, and also Maxtor. The drive is partitioned (40GB)
and was formatted NTFS. It is orginally an 80GB hardrive and is about 3
years old.

Does anyone know a way to fix this error or know of some software utility
program that can be obtained, free or otherwise to correct this problem.

If worse comes to worse, I can reformat the partition. However, if I don't
have too, I rather not. Had I gotten my "round tuit", I would have backed up
the one folder I had been meaning to backup that resides on that drive.
Installing software is no big deal.
