Hi there,
I am testing the capability of the MS iSCSI initiator (1.05a) on Win2k
against two iSCSI targets (EqualLogic). I have created dynamic disks on two
initiator connections (yes, I am aware that dynamic disks are not officially
supported yet, but there is no directive not to use them). Mirrors up to
1TB work no problem.
Everything works fine until I attempt to re-mirror a volume of greater than
1TB capacity. The mirror resync gets to exactly 1TB through, then simply
ends - leaving the mirror I was trying to add completely empty with no errors
in the event logs at all. Searching the knowledge base, I came across the
exact sypmtoms in article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827913 The newer
dmio.sys patch was applied and the server rebooted, but the failure remains
exactly the same. The symptoms match mine perfectly - a virgin mirror
creation works fine, but breaking/re-attaching fails.
I tested the same scenario on Windows 2003 Enterprise and found the same
issue there as well - no KB article exists for the problem on Win2k3
The question is - does the same bug in Article 827913 exist in Win2k3 as
well? I looked at the pre-release SP1 beta release notes, but found no
reference to a fix of this nature.
I plan to use a hardware iSCSI HBA (Qlogic) for further testing and to rule
out the MS initiator, but I have a suspicion that it's not the MS initiator
thats at fault.
Other experiences greatly appreciated.
