Re: dns & host file

Hello someone@xxxxxx,

Why do you not install your own DNS server? Think it will be more easy then using host file. Additional i wouldn't use both NIC's on this way, why not choosing one NIC on the hub, i prefer switches because they minimize traffic, and connect via the hub to the internet?

Thansk, I wil try to explain below:
I have two win 2000 servers(application and database server).
Each server have two network cards and use a hub(1 GB) connect each
other)
local IP: 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.101
The other network cards connect to internet.
192.168.0.100 is setup accept email relay and 192.168.0.101 use
192.168.0.100 to relay email out.
If I don't put 192.168.0.100 in host file, the email won't go out, I
think
it can't find in DNS.
I have to put 192.168.0.100 in host file and specify 192.168.0.100 in
smart
host in order to let it work.
Can I put 192.168.0.100 local ip in DNS and get rid of host file?

Hello someone@xxxxxx,

Please describe your network setup, server, switches and internet
access. If you only have one machine normally the router is also DNS
server for

your

machine.
