Re: Conflict between www. & mail.

You ARE an Ace!!! Bloody brilliant!! Your solution totally worked. I kept
creating an entirely NEW record for mail.ilpomodoro.com - it never dawned on
me to just add a host to the existing record!!! This problem has been
plaguing me for entirely too long - thank you, thank you, thank you!!

On a personal note, "The only constant in life is change..." - happen to
have that tattoo (only in the form of Chinese symbols) - but isn't that the
truth...!

below:
Scenario:
www.ilpomodoro.com is hosted at my network
mail.ilpomodoro.com is hosted at Network Solutions

Problem:
I can't access mail.ilpomodoro.com from my network

I would think I need to put some sort of a separate entry for
mail.ilpomodoro.com in DNS for any requests to forward to
205.178.146.50 (mail.ilpomodoro.com.netsolmail.net). I tried that...
and fussed with the A record, host record, etc but it's still not
working. Am I on the right track.....?

On your internal DNS hosting the ilpomodoro.com zone, rt-click, new host,
type in mail, provide the actual external IP address, which I found when I
pinged it to be: 205.178.146.50, which responds to a telnet on port 25 to be
Network Solution's email server.

Then I did an nslookup to see what actual MX record exits for
ilpomodoro.com. I found there is an MX record called
"INBOUND.ILPOMODORO.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET", which resolves to 205.178.149.7 (a
completely different IP address than when I pinged mail.ilpomodor.com).
When i telneted to that, Network Solutions email server also responded.

So you need to straighten out your records or no one will be able to email
you.
