Thanks for the additional info.
How are you pinging? By single name or FQDN? FQDN gets it right from DNS. If
single label name, that's a NetBIOS name if in WINS, and if not it will
suffix the search suffix.
So you are saying when you ping by FQDN:
mail.domain.com, you get 192.168.1.50
and when you ping:
www.domain.com, you also get 192.168.1.50 ?
Have you tried to clear your cache: ipconfig /flushdns? Do you have a hosts
file with any entries? WINS entries, LMHOSTS entries?
