The subdomain was named example... and the host record in the subdomain was
named example?
Then the record would be "example.example.mycompany.com"
IF you create the host and leave the name field blank, it will resolve as
"example.mycompany.com" if you name the record www, it would be
www.example.mycompany.com IMO if this is for a website, I would have both a
blank host and a www host so it will resolve both ways. Some people will
always add www to website addresses by habit.
