I don't believe a reinstall was the answer here.

You cannot. AD won't work, assuming I understand what your scenario is. That
DNS probably is not allowing updates and/or the zone for you AD DNS domain
name hass not been created on it.

    ONLY USE 10.11.40.100.

What DNS server is 10.11.40.101 ??
I think in your other post (in another thread you started) says this machine
is only a client machine called "Madeline" or something like that. Is that
    running DNS too?

    > Here is my question: How do I get the DSN to work using

As I said previously, if that DNS is not allowing updates and/or the zone
for you AD DNS domain name hass not been created on it, then there's no way
you can use it. Just use your own, 10.11.40.100, then in DNS properties,
forwarding tab, set 10.0.20.100 as a forwarder.

What sort of VPN?? Is it established between your router and their router
(assuming St. Louis) which connects your two locations transparently or is
it physically created on your server as a VPN client?

If between routers, then there's nothing to worry about. Try what I
    suggested with the forwarder.

DNS is actually easy once you learn it. Just takes time messing with it.
