The domain name _must_ resolve to the Domain controllers for the Active
Directory domain. That is how Group policies are applied, group policies are
in the SYSVOL DFS share on all DCs at
\\domain.com\SYSVOL\domain.com\policies you should not alter this behavior.
I suggest that you setup websites on the DCs that will redirect domain.com
to www.domain.com. That is a much better solution and keeps members machines
from trying to find the DFS share on the web server.
