We currently use Symantec Ghost to clone our Windows 2000 Pro systems. We
use the Ghost Walker application to regenerate SID on each newly Ghosted
system. We looked into using SysPrep, but because of project requirements
elected to use Ghost Walker.
Our systems implement a two partition system in which drive C: is the main
Windows 2K OS partition, and drive D: is strictly a data partition.
Occasionally if one of our systems goes down, we generally just re-ghost it,
however there are times when we would like to only re-ghost the system
partition and leave the data partition intact. Because we can amass a very
significant amount of files on the data partition, it can sometimes take
several hours to re-generate SID on that partition if we only re-ghost drive
C:.
My question is, how important and necessary is it to re-generate SID on data
only partitions?
