Text Search - Problem with Indexing Service

Hi,
I have to implement Text Search functionality in one of my project.
I could not find any documentation on how windows explorer performs text
search.
All they say is to go through Indexing Service. I tried using that but the
results are not same as that of explorer.
Please let me know how can I use shell to retrieve text from the files.
