Hi,

I understand that when you try to uninstall any application from add/remove
programs, the system displays error message indicating that there is a
previous application that should be installed before proceeding with the
installation.

Please try the following steps and check if this resolves the issue.

Note: the suggestion involves modifying the registry key. Please perform
the backup of the registry before continuing with the modification.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Check the value "DataBasePath" in

Hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InPro
gress

- find the *.msi file in the Data of Value "DataBasePath" (will be in form
%systemroot%\%rootdirectory%\Installer)
- Example: "DataBasePath REG_SZ C:\Winnt\Installer\35935D.msi"
- go to %systemroot%\%rootdirectory\Installer
- delete the *.msi file from the Installer folder

-NOTE: you may need to go into Safe Mode to delete this file

2. Go back into registry and remove the following keys:

Hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InPro
gress

- delete the "InProgress" key
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\{Product's GUID}
- check Value "ProductName" to find the key of the problem application
- Example: "ProductName"="ACDSEE"
- delete the GUID key

3. Reboot the computer

4. You should now be able to uninstall/reinstall in Add/Remove Programs

Hope the issue is resolved.

Thank you,

Rashmi

| Hi,
|
| I'm getting the following message when trying to
| uninstall some software off of a Win2000 Server:
|
| "Another installation is already in progress. Complete
| that installation before proceeding with this install"
|
| Perhaps some old install of something went bad or didn't
| complete. In any case, I can't clear this problem and
| therefore can't install or uninstall any software.
|
| I've seen one KB article that I retrieved via the error
| message text above, but it applied to MS Office and a
| machine that was upgraded from Win95/98 to 2000. This is
| not my case.
|
| Can someone help?
|
| Thanks,
| Kyle Stedman
