Hello Rusty,.
Yes, you can. But you have to upgrade the schema on the running Schema master
before.

Hello Rusty,
Adprep command is on the second R2 disc and you have to run it on the
schema master server with an account that is in schema admin group.
For the contact lost can be a DNS problem. Please post an ipconfig
/all from the DC/DNS server and th R2 machine.

I have two servers running server 2003. One is a domain controller
and one
is a member server running exchange. I have added a third server
for
file
space. It is running 2003 R2. Currently it is a member server. I
believe I
should make this server an additional domain controller. However,
the
server
joined the domain fine and ran for a few days. It then lost contact
with the
network and I had to run "gpupdate". This corrected the issue but I
can not
continue to do this. Will it help if I make this server a domain
controller?
Additionally, I was told "before I promote the server to run
forestprep and
domainprep". Do I run this only on the current domain controller
and
where
can I find these programs?
Thanks,
