I am not
upgrading Exchange 2000 to 2003 and I am running 2003 R2 which
apparently doesn't mangle the attributes in the forest.....
This article leads me to believe that Exchange 2000 is not compatible w/ Win
2k3.
See the number 3 in this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555040/en-us
Win 2k3 R2 disk 1 is the exact CD as Win 2k3 with SP 1 slipstreamed into it.
Win 2k3 R2 disk 2 is ONLY feature upgrades. Upgrades to DFS and Printing
functions etc..
If you aren't going to use the update features you don't even have to
install the second disk. You can just cancel the request for the second disk
and you will have a Win 2k3 SP 1 server. It's exactly the same as if you had
installed Win 2k3 from a Win 2k3 CD and downloaded SP1 and installed it.
I think R2 will mangle attributes. It's just Win 2k3 SP1 with a few feature
upgrades.

Hi,
I have a Win2k Domain with three DC's all on service pack 4. There is
one server running Exchange 2000. There are also a mix of 2000/2003
member servers in this Domain.
I plan to install a new server, which needs to be a domain controller,
running Windows 2003R2.
Running a similar setup using Virtual servers, I am trying to
"pratice" the install before doing it in the live setup.
I have read as much as I can on installing a new 2003 DC in a 2000
domain, and have tried to run adprep /forestprep on the DC, I get an
error:
"Adprep was unable to extend the schema.
[Status/Consequence]
There is a schema conflict with Exchange 2000. The schema is not
upgraded.
[User Action]
The schema conflict must be resolved before running adprep. Resolve
the schema c
onflict, allow the change to replicate between all replication
partners, and the
n run Adprep. For information on resolving the conflict, see Microsoft
Knowledge
Base article Q325379.
"
The article given isn't the most helpful, as it is more for upgrading
rather than a new install into an existing domain.
Thanks in advanced
None of those apply... I am not running Unix services 3.0, I am not
upgrading Exchange 2000 to 2003 and I am running 2003 R2 which
apparently doesn't mangle the attributes in the forest.....
I have searched before posting the original message, and they always
apply this problem to Upgrading Exchange along with the server, not
installing a new 2003 DC in a 2000 domain. I realise that the schema
and exchange attributes have to be altered, but nothing I have done
seems to work.
