This might not be an issue. There's only a compatibility issue in a
multi-domain forest where, in any given domain, the IM resides on a GC and
there are other DCs in the domain that are not GCs:

You also don't seize the role of GC. You simply choose to make a DC a GC or
not. This is done via DSSITE.MSC as stated by Yusef, or via bit 0 of the
options attribute on the NTDS Settings object for the server.
