why do you want to complicate your life? Seize the IM role (anyway is not
not used in a single domain scenario), do a metadata cleanup (remove the
failed DC) and don't bring the other DC online.

I have a DC that was taken off line due to possible problems being caused
on the network. We have two other DC's. One has all the FSMO roles except
for the Infrastructure Manager role. the other no FSMO roles. Both are GC's
(single forest/domain).
I just noticed that the off line DC (DC2) has the IM role. I don't want to
bring it back on line at this time (vacations, etc.). I was planning to
bring it back on line before the tombstone period (off-shift) to attempt
to DCPROMO it. I'd rather do that than forcibly remove it.
If I seize the IM role onto DC1, what would be the impact if I connect DC2
later long enough to DCPROMO it?
Aked a different way, what, if any impact is there to having the IM role
on a DC that is not online for a couple of weeks?
TIA,
Hank Arnold
