u-Promote Success?

I'm looking into using u-Promote to demote an NT4 domain controller in a
domain with 2 other 2000 DC's (one local, one remote). I need to get this
domain to 2000 Native Mode ASAP, but don't really want to migrate all of the
files/etc.off of the NT4 box. I read that with u-Promote, NT4 boxes can be
converted to member servers w/o losing ACL's and share permissions - this
sounds perfect! Am I reading this correctly? Has anyone successfully done
this?
