Yes. Domain.com, not just domain.

But it is possible to have them set wrong and either do the
DCPromo (I have never done this so not sure quite how)
OR make it a DNS server without a proper domain name.

If you have multiple NICs, make sure the NIC DNS setting
isn't overriding the proper DNS name (there is a box for
NIC specific settings.)
