As long as you have a two way external trusts between the domains, and WINS
(which these type of trusts create) and that you opted to keep the
SIDHistory for the migrated users, then they will still have access to the
old Exchange server. Don't forget to also do the security translation to
allow the new user accounts to use their old profiles. The client machines
need to be running, but not logged on to, so that translation will work.
As for the source domain controllers, you would need that to exist anyway if
Exchange were to continue to work in the source domain. But since the old
SID is part of the user account, and a migrated user were to access a
memberserver that the original user had previously been given permission to
access, then no, the source DC won't have to be there. There was a
discussion about this about a week ago in this group between myself and
another person. We both didn't know the answer to that. I didn't have the
machines to test it, but he tested it and found this out. Interesting... But
in your scenario, you still need it for Exchange 2000 to work.
Ah, yesterday, doesn't really mean yesterday! So many projects that I've
been asked to do for clients that needed to be done 'yesterday' are only put
on the backburner when they find out the associated costs, etc, that
accompany it!
