hi all. I hope this is an appropriate newsgroup for my problem..

I've been trying to set up NIS server on our W2K domain controller by
installing "Services for Unix" package. By doing so, I'm trying to make a
bunch of SuSE clients users to logon to the Active Directory.

Although I'm not that familiar with NIS, I know SuSE clients can enable NIS
client very easily by yast, and I expected from reading materials that not
much is needed to configure on the domain controller's NIS server part, but
it hasn't been working. Users cannot login, despite commands "ypcat passwd"
"ypcat groups" "ypcat hosts" "domainname" all display appropriately on the
clients, "ypbind" is running, and "cat /etc/passwd" shows "+::::" at the
end.

has anyone with success stories? wonder what I'm missing.

What I've done was:

1) enabled one AD user as a Unix user (under properties, Unix tab), with
appropriate NIS domain, group, etc.
2) enabled one AD group as a Unix group
3) created one AD computer object as a Unix NIS client, with appropriate IP
address
4) created /etc/hosts file on the client so that the server can be
identified by its hostname (case sensitive)

One thing I noticed is the command "ypcat ypservers" doesn't output
anything. Is that necessary, if so, how can I enlist the server?

Thanks, I'd appreciate any kind of input and suggestions,
