Pluggable authentication

How does one go about extending the Active Directory bind mechanism? Specifically, suppose I wish to add the examination of a one-time password to the bind call. I need to validate the user's password as usual, but I want to supply code that will also do the check of the OTP. How is this done?

To clarify, with the Sun directory server, I can write a plug-in that is called when a client issues a bind request. I don't see any way to do that with AD. Is writing a new SASL plug-in the answer?

Thanks!
