Perhaps there is a issue with the permissions on the OU that you are
attempting to add the computer object to when joining. Try comparing the
permissions of the OU against those of the computers container. What
happens you you try to join using netdom? Is there an error?

using "netdom join..." to do this. This is fine when using a domain admin
account but when I use a regular account with permissions to add machines to
the domain it doesn't work. I can even use this reg user account to add it
to the domain through "My Computer, Properties...".
