Actually you don't need a DC in the branch, but again that depends on the
wan links etc... But if you want/can have a DC at the branch I usually
install the server as a member first, then use dcpromo to make it a DC.
During the dcpromo process you select "additional DC in an existing domain"
and type your domain name.
If you don't want to do the initial replication over your wan, that is if
you have w2k3, you can install it from media.
