Don't know about costs, but two commercial products:
- BindView NetInventory
- Executive Software SiteKeeper

Also go to ITProDownloads.com, and enter "inventory"
it returned several possibilities, incl SMP Pro by Eastbow Labs,
and DEKSI Network Inventory by DEK Software Intl
