Hello,
I have two real time problems and I am a bit puzzled. I invite you all to
help me.
The two independent problems are:
A. Windows native file copy in folders (copy and paste).
B. Visual Source Safe 2005
A. Windows file copy:
What we have:
1. Two servers, one in USA, one in India.
2. Connected by 1Mbps site-to-site VPN tunnel.
3. The drives of the first server are mapped in the remote servers
respectively.
4. Expect to transfer 1GB data per day between the two servers.
5. Latency 325ms through the VPN tunnel.
6. Packet loss of about 7 packets per hour in a continuous ping between the
servers.
7. We have 9 workings hours window to complete the file copy. Remaining time
the servers are unavailable due to backup process.
Problems:
1. Frequent disconnection. Hence have to restart the copy process.
Proposed solution:
1. FTP through the VPN tunnel.
2. Any other suggestions that you have?
B. Visual Source Safe 2005
What we have:
1. Same office locations as above. USA office and India office.
2. Connected by 1Mbps site-to-site VPN tunnel.
3. Latency 325ms through the VPN tunnel.
4. Visual Source safe 2005 server in USA running on Novell.
5. We have 8 users in India for this Source safe. We have VS2005 client
software on 8 windows XP professional desktops in India. Check-in, Check-out
of the files is about 300MB per day from India. We need select folders in a
database only.
6. We have 9 workings hours window to use. Remaining time the server is
unavailable due to backup process.
Problems:
1. Too slow. Loss of continuity.
Proposed solution:
1. Setup a Visual Source safe 2005 server on Windows 2003 server in India.
Do real time Source Safe replication or may be replicate every 3 hours.
2. Any better ideas that you have?
Request for help:
1. Suggestion from you on the above scenarios.
2. Visual Source safe 2005 setup for replication.
Hoping that all of you will be able to help me soon.
Thanking you,
Regards,
Rahul Nathan
