Re: VSS label/branch question.

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thanks Richard, that does help. I was not thinking of the previously
labeled Project folder being relabeled if I start from $\. We do only need
2 Projects from our root, so I will apply this techniques only to them.

If you label the business folder to v1.0 and they make changes to those
files
in the interim, when you label the entire project $/ as v1.0 then you move
the label on the business folder to the current revision. This does not
sound like what you want. The better solution would be to simply label
the
development folder as v1.0 when ready. This way, the initial label of the
business documents remain unchanged.

And as for the second question, again, it depends on what level you branch
at. If you branch only at the developer folder level, then only those
files
will be branched. If you branch at the entire project level ($/) then you
will get both the business and developer folders. I would think you would
only want to branch at the developer level, but then I am not sure how you
document bug fixes; if you update the original documents you will have to
make allowances for that.

Hope this helps.

Hi all. We are moving from version 1.0 of our product to development of
2.0, but we have not labeled yet. the developers are completing some
coding
for version 1.0, then we will label. At the same time, the business and
functional analysts are working on documentation for version 2.0!

My question is, if we want the business and functional analysts to be
able
to check in files for version 2.0, can we label their Project folder as
Version 1.0 now and then when the developers are done, label the entire
$/
as Version 1.0? Now, if we wanted to bug fix for version 1.0 and we
branch
for 1.1, will this catch both the developers Project folders AND the
business/functional analysts Project folders?
