I see.
With SourceOffsite (SOS), there is one "master" repository - thus no need
for syncrhonization. Basically, there is a SOS Server which is installed
on a machine which has access to the VSS database through a LAN. From
the SOS Server, other developers use a SOS clients to access the VSS
database served by the SOS Server.
For instance, imagine a VSS database residing on a file server in New
York. The SOS Server is also installed here on a machine which is also
available to remote users either via VPN or the Internet.
So when a developer in London checks out a file, users in New York and
Los Angeles both see the checkout. Now, if the user in Los Angeles uses
VS.Net with the SOS client to check out the same file, assuming multi-
checkout is enabled, the user in Los Angeles obtains a lock on the file
as well. When everyone has finished their changes, they check-in their
results. Once checked in, users simply do a "GET" operation to receive
the newly versioned files.
Does that answer your question?
