Re: Startup default language in VS 8 Pro

version 8 Pro is Visual Studio 5? I think not, I had Visual Studio 5 Pro
before this one and it is not the same version at all. The version I have
just bought and installed is designated Visual Studio 8 Professional, but
actually shows it as Visual Studio 9.0.30729.1 SP1 on the About screen, and
it is the current VS Pro version available for download or purchase at the
MS Developer websites:
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/default.mspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/default.aspx
As well, all of the MSDN documentation file for the installed Help content
is designated Visual Studio 8, not Visual Studio 5 (or 9 for that matter).
Furthermore, I have a SS v 5 installed on my system which uses the MSDN
documentation installation which is an earlier version and is so designated
as well. The Help file for VS 8 lists in the title bar that it is
"Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Documentation - Documentation Explorer".
So I am quite sure I am talking here about VS 8 Pro, not VS 5...... :=)
Anyway, OK yes that is what I thought I needed to do to set up a different
dev language development environment. But is there a way to do that by
saving the different configurations and accessing them individually, as one
can do with VS 8 Express for example? Could you possibly use some kind of
startup command-line parameter to differentiate which version you want to
run? Would using a run command that is targeted to the environment profile
file do it tom initiate the runnoing of the software e.g Run "env file
xxx.xxx" or the like?
Is it possible to run two separate instances of VS 8 at the same time, one
for one language, say VB, and the other for a different language like VC++?
If you always have to change settings in the current environment then close
it to enable a different environment on the next startup, that would not
seem to be possible. What I really want is an individual desktop
icon/shortcut for each type of environment, like I used to have for VS
Express.
As for the second question: I will try reinstalling the documentation to
see what happens.
BTW all my software for VS 8 Pro is up to date regarding patches etc.

First question: I just installed VS 8 Pro on my PC system (awesome!).hmm, version 8 is Visual Studio 2005...
The only thing I see that **might** be what I am seeking is the "ImportThis is the right place to look for. You may export your current settings.
and Export Settings" Tools menu option. If so, should I save my current
environment first as a file, and then select a different envioronment
default, save the new one, and then use that process to allow selecting
which environment to operate in? Is that the method? Is it possible to
save things so that I can simply switch environments before VS starts by
using different menu selections?
To switch the environment you can load a previous saved one or select the
reset option. Selecting the reset option is what you need. It will ask you
for your language preferences.
Second question: I notice that many of the choices, links and topics inSure? I don't see this kind of focused topics. How did you install the
the VS 8 Help file, for example for "startup kits" etc., refer to the
Express versions and even link to the Express web pages.
MSDN help system?
