VS 2008 + Emacs Scheme + Selection Overwriting

We're changing to VS 2008 for new projects and the Emacs keyboard
scheme works great for me, except for one thing. If I select some
text, then type to overwrite that selection, it merely appends to the
end of the selection. I can understand why the Emacs scheme does
this, but is there any way to change this behavior? I'd like to be
able to overwrite the selected text without having to hit Ctrl+Del
first (the default binding for Edit.EmacsDeleteSelection). Is there
any way to do this or am I out of luck?
