Most Windows systems were version 3.1 when I first learned to program for
Windows. I found Charles Petzold's "Programming Windows 3.1" pretty good.
He's also written "Programming Windows" which I haven't read, but I see it
teaches how to use the native Windows API. I'd guess that this would be a
good book if you're wanting to understand how a Windows program works under
the C++ wrappers.
