You should read less Slashdot - it is obviously biased in favour of open
source solutions like Linux. Yes, a simple ActiveX can turn off the firewall
- as well as you can do it manually. It can also delete all your files (if
you have set the permissions wrong), uninstall antivirus, stole your credit
card numbers, etc. BUT! Only after it gets into your system (and why would it
get there? because you open all the viruses in the e-mails?). It is pretty
simple thing that can happen everywhere (including Linux, Mac, etc).

Slashdot is making huge noice out of non-existent Microsoft problems, while
at the same time completely ignoring glaring security problems in everyone's
favourite - Firefox (and other open source software).
