I'm probably going to regret this as I'm only feeding a troll like you.
Before you start calling somebody a moron take a look at yourself. You can
use any browser you want to get Platform SDK. You don't need any ActiveX
controls to install it either. I'm starting to think that open source users,
especially the ones proud of being open source users, are complete morons
that are not capable of navigating the web. You can download the
installation as a set of archives, at
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/psdk-full.htm
(it's linked from the menu off of the Platform SDK site). I hope you know
how to download files using Firefox. Once you extract the files (Microsoft
even provides a batch file for you so you don't have to do it manually) you
can just start the installation, it uses the standard Windows Installer
interface to install.
As for needing 500 MB of disk space - you only need the build environment to
do what you want to do, that's only 30MB download. If you don't care for the
documentation why are you selecting it? It's an unnecessary 100MB download.
Same goes about IA-64 files and samples, just don't select them if you don't
want them. You're back on Windows, you have choices, so get used to it and
stop whining.
