MS named VS2005 family products very badly and confusing, especially when it
is VSTO.
VSTO2003: add-on, caanot be used/installed alone. you must have VS2003 Pro;
VSTO2005: stand-alone suite, similar as VS2005Pro. Both are the same in most
functionnalities and something can be done with one and cannot be done with
the other. If you ned to do both of those somethings, you need to shell out
more money for one the VS team suite (BTW, so called team suite never
formaly available as final release, at least it is the case for MSDN
subscriber).
VSTO2005SE: add-on again. You must have VS2005Pro or VSTO2005, or one of the
VS team suite, in order to add VSTO2005SE on top. With VSTO2005SE, you can
do office development in different levels, depending on it is added on which
top, VS2005Pro, or VSTO2005. For InfoPath development, I believe, you need
InfoPath SDK (I am not sure if it is included in VSTO2005SE, at least it is
not in my VSTO2005SE installation).

What exactly is the difference here? I installed VSTO2005 SE and can't see
any difference. The MS web site talks in riddles. What does it actually
do/add to the equation, in plain english? All I can make out is support
for InfoPath, which worries me naught since I'm not using it.
Thanks.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office System
Beta (also known as "Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition
Beta" or "VSTO 2005 SE Beta") is an add-on to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
that enables you to build application-level add-ins for the 2007 Microsoft
Office system as well as the Microsoft Office 2003 Editions.
VSTO 2005 SE Beta features several new important investments in the area
of Office programmability. Whether it's in the revolutionized and highly
extensible Office user interface, or in the support for managed add-ins in
Office applications not previously covered by Visual Studio 2005 Tools for
Office, there exist a number of great new opportunities and challenges for
Microsoft Office solution developers. VSTO 2005 SE Beta leverages the
solution development environment of Visual Studio 2005 to help you use
these opportunities and challenges to take your solutions to the next
level.
VSTO 2005 SE Beta also includes support for Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007
forms, previously available as a separate download for Visual Studio 2005.
You can design InfoPath 2007 form solutions right in the Visual Studio
2005 environment.
