VS2005 hangs/dies when

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

vs dies whenever i try to use the gui to do anything with a database: server
explorer, connection wizard, create a database project, etc. devenv uses most
of the cpu for 5 mins or so and then lets me send an error msg to ms. has
anyone seen this and more to the point, do you know how to fix it?
