Re: VS.NET 2003 SP1 failure 1603... vs71sp1-3.zip txt.dat [1/3]

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Kevin,

From your description, when installing the vs.net 2003 sp1 on a particular
machine, you failed to finish the installation. And this install failure
will also corrupt the original vs 2003 installed, correct?

Based on the first log file you provided, I found that the only error entry
is the below one:

.
MSI (c) (90:0C) [07:35:46:594]: Product: Visual Studio .NET Professional
2003 - English - Update '{0F433B5E-2F22-47D1-9861-2FF167CF891D}' could not
be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the
log file c:\vs71sp1.log.
<<<<<<<<<<<

that indicate a fatal error during the installation, and it refer to the
"vs71sp1.log" file.

For your new posted messages, have you attached the file there? I saw the
"vs71sp1-3.zip.txt.data" attachement, is this a zip package or a text log
file? I've downloaded it and tried both ways but fail to correct open it.

Would you please send the complete log files (as a zip package) to me
through email? You can get my email address from my signature(remove the
"online").

BTW, for general troubleshooting, I suggest you use filemon and regmon to
trace file and registry accessing to see whether there are any obvious
error access during the SP1 setup.

If there is any other finding, please feel free to post here also.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng
