I am assuming that you are all talking about MDAC 9.0 here...
What I would do first is try running the MDAC9.0 setup directly..and see if
it will install that way. You should find it on the Disk1 at the WCU\MDAC9
folder...
If it still fails you should see the actual error dialogs and hopefully
with some useful information so you can work around the problem... If you
get it installed then you should be able to restart the tech preview setup
again...and continue.
IF you are not successful in getting Mdac 9.0 installed...suggest that you
have a have the latest mdac8 installed first (I believe if you have wxp and
newer operating systems with latest SPs...you should be good...
Now I suggest that you FAKE out the Tech preview setup and make it think
that MDAC9 is installed. You can do this by modifying the registry at:
HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DataAccess
and changing your FullInstallVer and Version values to: 9.0.608.0
Now when you restart the Tech preview setup it will detect that you already
have the version of mdac installed and should remove that installation
requirement.
Hope this helps.
